usb thumb drive ??

Win xp, usb 2

Have 2 thumb drives.
One is reconized by system and the other is not.
When I plug them in to front usb port, one opens up in WE as F drive and
also shows up in Device Manager under Disk drives along with my HD.
The other doesn't show up in WE and in Device Manager it's shows up under
Other devices/Mass Storage Device but with yellow ? mark. I've tried to D/L
driver with no luck also.
The one that opens is a 256mg Kingston. The other is a 4 gig and has no name
stamped on it.
When I plug in the one that doesn't work, I get an the "Found New Hardware
Wizard" but it can't find a driver.

Suggestions and thanks,

L.

Try it on another system, and see if you can retrieve its contents.

It's quite possible that the one has failed, or is well on its way. They
can and do suddenly and irretrievably fail. This is why this type of drive
should never be used for work, storage or backup, only for convenient
transport of files that you have other copies of.

I've come across thumb drives that work on some PCs but not on others. On the ones that they don't
work on, different thumb drives do work OK. Sometimes unplugging them and plugging them in again can
help.

-- Disconnect both.
-- Connect only the noname one.
-- Check Device Manager and clear out (uninstall) the Yellow
entries.
-- Under USB section, uninstall "storage" entries.
-- Disconnect and reconnect.

(answers to suggestions already given)

I use this TD on the other systems w/o any problems so I'm thinking it's ok.
When I plug it in, I hear the usual "thump" sound and the light on the drive
comes on but it's not being recognized.

I'm guessing the reason it's doesn't have a brand stamped on it is that it's
came from a business so it's got the business name on it instead of the
actual brand.

Will follow Bees advise and check it for any software that may be on it. The
only thing I put on it was a .doc file.

Question- should/can I reformat the drive or is there a setting on the
system I need to check?
