USB Storage device

I am having an issue with Windows XP correctly
identifying a USB Mass Storage device. I have run the
entire USB device troublshooter and Windows reports it is
unable to provide a solution at this time. I have
uninstalled and reinstalled the USB root hub and the USB
Host Controller. I have also verified that the USB device
works on another computer running identical drivers the
USB device does work. The USB ports on the computer also
work. I have verified this by using three other devices
that were recognized and installed automatically by XP.
Here is the pertinent information.

OS - Windows XP SP1
USB driver for pendrive - usbstor.sys is available and up
to date

All updates to windows have been applied
Appropriate USB Host and Hub controllers are functioning
properly

Did you remove all the USB Devices you could uninstall from Device
Manager. Does your Motherboard have a Via chipset? I would do that. Remove
every trace of USB devices. Restart and let WinXP boot with no usb devices
hooked up.
Restart again and then install your USB devices one at a time. After
each device restart.

I am also having same problem.I have this Toshiba A10 satellite bought just 2 days back..
It comes with Win XP Home and SP1.
I have applied all updates available on Microsoft website.
But still it can not "READ" my USB thumb drive !!
It does recognizes drive as a USB MUSIC DISC but it can not read the it.
It shows free and used space as 0 bytes !!!
I have confirmed that same disk can be read and written on another PC.
My USB ports are working fine as I can use a USB mouse on same port...
