USB-stick stays in use

When I try to remove my USB-stick I get the message that it's impossible
because some program is using it, but when I look on the task pannel there
are no programs running.
I already unchecked the indexing service of the stick (in it's Properties),
but that didn't help.
Can anyone help?

Are you trying to do this from the "Safely remove hardware" icon? If so,
wait a few seconds and try again. That usually works for me with larger USB
storage media. (Sticks I just yank out.) Another possibility is that System
Restore and/or Recycle Bin have been activated on the device. That often
happens in WinXP, not sure if it does in Vista though.

Make sure that no program is reading the drive or using a file from the
drive. Make sure Windows Explorer does not have a window open to the drive.

-Yes I do it with the "Safely remove hardware" icon.
-There are no programs running and there are no open windows (Windows
Explorer is closed), and I still get the message that the stick is in use.

Unless you have enabled delayed write on your flash drive, there is no need
to use "Safely Remove".

Simply plug it in and shortly after using it, unplug it. There is no need to
use "Safely Remove" for most people.

No, I'm not.
I tried to use it, but I got some message I did't understand and I gave up.
The stick is a Apacer of 4 GB.
Could there perhaps be some remains of my attempt?

It is quite unlikely you have found it. let alone set it, and it would have
