Remove USB stick

I got a laptop with Vista Home Premium installed.
Whenever I put a USB memory stick into the USB port and after my work, right
click to 'Safely Remove Harware' icon on the tray, but the light still
flasing on my USB memory stick.

If I use it in my desktop, the light did not flash when I 'Safely Remove
Hardware; successfully.
Why it only happened in laptop?

I see the same thing - in XP, the LED turns off when I click Safely
Remove, but in Vista it does not. Hard to say why Microsoft changed
the behavior, but it seems like we just have to live with it.

Arthur: All my life I've had this strange feeling that there's
something big and sinister going on in the world.
Slartibartfast: No, that's perfectly normal paranoia. Everyone in the
universe gets that.

Can you also do this:

a) Install USB flashdrive into your laptop.

b) Goto ControlPanel-->System-->Device/Hardware Manager.
A window will open up showing all your existing devices - enabled, disabled
and enabled but troubled.
Find that USB flashdrive on the list and right-click on it-->Properties.
Click on one of the tabs (I don't remember exact name, is it 'Policies"?)
and find Policies.
MAKE SURE CHECKBOX SAYING "OPTIMIZE THIS DRIVE FOR QUICK REMOVAL" IS
CHECKED.

That should make you safer in terms of corrupting datat on that USB
flashdrive, but never do this for high-performance massstorage like
harddisks, only do fo this type of frequently removed USB device.
This option assures that all data has been flushed out of buffer memory into
actual storage before you unplug, and if it's not checked you migh tunplug
before data was pumped to destination and corrupt your drive.

This may not solve your worries abou tflashing lights, but it's a good thing
to do anyway.
