USB stick not recognized ...

Hi, you XP profis,

i am using WinXP Prof. SP2 with all patches ...

After installing VisualStudio 2005 i had a big problem with
ActiveX, no security bar in IE, no automatic update, components
in MSOffice (MS Project) not shown, etc.
So i finally did a repair installation of XP and everything seems ok,
but now my USB (2.0) Stick is not recognizes any more.
In the harddisk manager the stcik is shown with correct
partition/formatting info, but has no assigned drive letter ...
If i assign a drive letter, the drive is not shown in Explorer.
If i type Q:\ (the assigned drive) in Explorer, i get the error "drive
not found".
After starting WinXP new, the drive letter in harddisk manager is gone
and the game starts again ...

My Maxtor USB drive ist recognized correctly ...

Does anyone have a good hint ?

Thanks
Stefan

Does the stick have any software ? Reinstall if it does.
Do it while stick removed.

Did you install the chipset drivers. As a matter of fact a lot of items
have to be reinstalled after a reinstallation of an OS.

And if your original XP did not contain SP1, you will need to re-apply SP1, or
SP2, in order to get the correct USB 2.0 drivers.
