USB sd/mmc reader not recognized

I have a USB 2.0 SD/mmc reader that my laptop will not recognize. It works
perfectly on my desktop but not my laptop.
The laptop is running XP pro with SP2
the desktop is running XP with SP2.

Anyone have any sugestions?

Can you use any USB 1.1 storage device on your laptop? or is it an
issue with USB 2.0 storage devices only.

I can use USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 storage devices on my laptop, it appears to be
only the card reader that doesnt work
