USB problem with XP pro

DCF

We have a laptop that is member of a domain, it also has a account for the
local machine as well, which is a user with Admin rights. When this user is
logged locally she can put her USB memory stick in or her USB Camera and
the laptop picks up both as a Drive E: (Memory Stick) and also the Camera
and everything works fine.

But when she is logged on to the network and inserts her USB devices nothing
shows up for either. Also if the network cable is removed and she then logs
onto the domain which then picks up the local machine profile as no network
connection is present, she still does not pick up the USB devices...?

Any suggestions?

Whether you're physically connected to the network or not
makes no difference when logging on to the domain as XP
caches domain logon information by default. The profile
will be exactly the same as when you're on the network.

Your inability to see the USB drives, however, has to do
with Group Policies applied to the domain account, I
believe. There are no policies dealing specifically with
USB devices, but there is one called 'Hide these Drives in
My Computer', that gives admins the ability to hide drive
letters from their users (useful for removing access from
floppy drive, CD, etc).

Use the Resultant Set of Policies tool when logged on to
the domain(Add/Remove Snapins from the MMC) to see if this
policy has been applied to you (unless your power-hungry
domain admin has restriced access to that too!).
