USB ports not working after SP2 - fixes not helping

The USB ports are not working on one of my PCs since installing SP2.
I've read about the possible solutions for this problem and have tried
all of them, but to no avail. I have done the following:

- Flashed my BIOS with the latest version
- Manually updated the USB controller device drivers via Device
Manager
- Reinstalled the chipset drivers (Intel 865)
- Reinstalled the drivers and s/w for my USB devices

Device Manager shows 3 host controllers and 3 root hubs. It thinks all
are working properly. However when I plug in a USB device, the PC does
not recognize that anything is connected.

Other info: Motherboard is an Asus P4P800. Everything worked fine
under SP1. I am not using a USB hub and have made no hardware changes
before or after installing SP1. I upgraded two other PCs with SP2 and
they have had no problems - USB works fine. Motherboard is an Asus
P4P800.

Any ideas? At this point my only remaining option seems to be to
reinstall XP with SP1.

Thanks,
Dan

Hold off on the reinstall, Sparky. I had a similar problem after installing
SP2. It was limited to my USB flash drive. It needed a drive letter, and
after SP2, Windows wanted to assign the first letter after the local drives.
That letter was assigned to my first LAN drive by my network login script.
This fixed it:

1. Attach the drive to a USB port.
2. Right click My Computer
3. Click Manage
4. Click Disk Management
5. Right click the removable drive
6. Choose Change Drive Letters and Paths
7. Pick an unused drive letter
8. Exit

Thanks for the tip, but this is not limited to a flash drive. None of
my USB devices are being recognized, and most of them do not have
drive letters associated with them.
