USB ports don't see camera

Have new Canon A70. Installed Canon software. Connected
camera direct to USB port. Got message of a problem with
the Port. It failed to see camera. Tried another USP
port and mouse and keyboard hung. 2 Ports on rear of PC
hang the mouse and keyboard and seem dead. 2 Ports on
front of PC seem dead. Device Manager says all operating
OK. Bought a card reader and it not recognized either at
USP port, but it sure gets HOT. Have WinZP home on newer
PC; has never given me a problem until now.

Have you checked the canon website for updated drivers and possible tech
support on this issue?

Devices not working off of the front USB ports is not unusual but in your
case it seems directly related to the software you installed, at least if
all ports functioned as they should and the mouse and keyboard functioned as
they should in the past.

I have been to Canon's site, but will go back. Their
software guide says 'install the software; connect the
camera to the computer; and WinXP will install the
driver'. Should I uninstall the software? Thanks for
your help. MM

You may be asked to uninstall the software at some point but probably for
purposes of reinstalling as, generally, with a USB device, you must install
the software first in order for it to be recognized. I think you should
contact Canon's tech support as they should have a better knowledge of
issues associated with their software.
