USB port malfunction

When attempting to connect my external hard drive to my new Vista OS I
receive a dialogue box stating that there is a problem connecting and the
USB ports are malfunctioning. I have no problem with another computer which
is running XP. Wonder if anyone else has had this experience.

Sounds like they (USB Ports) could be defective. Have you tried other USB
devices? If your computer is still under warranty, its best you take it back
and let the them check it out for you.
 
I don't think it is a Vista problem. It seems to be hardware problem. I have
it on two machines now. It sometimes comes and goes. I've had it on XPs, now
on Vista. It is like a ghost pulling plugs or something. A person said that
he resolved it by purchasing a new PCI USB card. This is what I may end up
doing as well.
