Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard, and and in the Run box type (or
Copy and Paste):

C:\Windows\inf

Click OK. Is there a file called "usbport.inf" located in that folder?

Hi Done as you instructed but no USB port.inf only USB port, USB port.PNF
and USB hub, this has become a nightmare, should be so easy or so I thought,
cannot understand why will work on friends Vista desktop and not my laptop.
Thanks for taking the trouble with me do apppreciate it, Judy

Judy,

Do other USB devices work in your USB ports? If not, you may have some USB
problem apart from the mouse. Try a Microsoft mouse, for example. Borrow
one, maybe. Just some thoughts.

Well, as far as finding the file goes, I think you have "Hide extensions for
known file types" checked in Control Panel (Classic View) > Folder Options,
on the View tab. UNcheck that (Apply, OK). I believe, however, that you
have the file. It's usually named usbport.inf (no spaces), and not "USB
port.inf" (with a space).

Type the word Device in the Start Menu's Start Search box. Click on Device
Manager in the results list. Then, in Device Manager, double-click the
Problem Device, under "Universal Serial Bus controllers", and, on the Driver
tab, choose Update Driver. Then choose "Browse my computer for driver
software." Under "Search for driver software in this location" (making sure
"Include subfolders" has a checkmark), Browse to
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore. Click OK once you've found that folder,
then click Next...
