USB Mouse Problem

Hello :)

I apologize for this, I have exhausted all other options and don't know what
else to do about this annoying problem.

I mean the kind of mouse that goes click instead of squeak. A couple months
ago, I got a Micro Innovations optical USB mouse for my laptop. It was 100%
plug 'n' play, no need to install any software, just plug it in to a USP port
and off I went. Most of the time, it works fine. But it does have a flaw.
Sometimes when I left click, the cursor 'll lock up for 0.5 to 4 seconds
during which my HD chatters as HD's normrally do, the light on the mouse goes
out, the click doesn't register nor do the buttons work at all and if the
mouse moves during that time, when it does come back on, the cursor 'll snap
to where it should be according to the movement and the buttons work
normrally.

Sometimes and thankfully less often, the light stays out, the buttons don't
work, I get an error message from the lower right saying "USB device not
recognized" 'n' something about "A USB device has malfunctioned and Windows
doesn't recognize it." I have to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to
work. I tried speaking with Micro Innovations tech help who e-mailed me a
driver that, though it installed flawlessly, didn't fix the flaws. A month
ago, for unrelated reasons, I had my HD wiped and WinXP Home replaced with
WinXP Pro. That didn't have any effect either. Anyone know what these flaws
might be an indicator of and how to fix them?

Thanx in advance :)

Take care :)

Try another mouse. It sounds like a hardware problem. You might try disabling
or enabling USB legacy support in the BIOS, but I doubt that will have an effexct.
