USB memory Stick Not Visible In My Computer

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2 with latest updates. I connected and installed
a USB 2.0 memory stick while I was logged in to one account on the machine
but if I connect the stick while I'm logged in to any other account it isn't
visible from My Computer. Although the stick isn't visible in the other
accounts the computer does know it has been connected, e.g. you can use
Safely Remove Hardware to remove the stick while logged in to these accounts.

Knowledge Base article 318623 "Memory Stick or PC CARD Is Not Visible in the
My Computer Information - Hardware Pane in Windows XP" relates to a similar
problem but I haven't (to my knowledge) installed the Q305096 hotfix and I
didn't use Help and Support Centre in the manner described prior to the
problem.

Can anyone help?

Right click on My Computer, select Manage, click on Disk Management.
Look if it shows up here.
If so, assign a drive letter to it. Then it will show up in My computer as
well.

It does show up in Disk Management and it already has a drive letter assigned
but I still can't see it in My Computer.

UNhide the letter with TweakUI.

I've managed to resolve this myself - the problem was caused by a mapped
network drive.

The computer concerned has a C: (hard drive) A: (floppy drive) and two
optical drives (D: and E:). I had also mapped a network drive using the
Profile tab - Home Folder - Connect in the properties of the user accounts -
this was F:

When I connected the stick Windows tried to allocate F: to it but couldn't
and so didn't display it in My Computer in all of the accounts that had the
mapped drive.
Since I changed the Home Folder drive mapping to K: the stick show in My
Computer every time.

Thanks to those who replied with suggestions.

I am having the same problem with my Sony Laptop PCG VX88. And I have guided
to the same article regarding an installed hotfix Q305096, which it is not on
my computer.

But I dont quite understand how you resolved it with mapped network drive.
Can you please guide me step tp step one more time?
