USB Mass Storage Problem on WinXP

I had upgrade my OS. by a fresh install of Windows XP Pro. on a DELL computer
with Windows ME. Everything is going good except for both usb ports (ports on
board). I can use usb mouse but can not for mass storage memory (flash
drive).
The flash drives work properly in other computers (with WinXP). I tried to
reinstall OS. for 2 times but can not fix the problem. How can I fix it ?
If you have any ideas, please let me know.

Thanks,
Surin

It's my guess you need to install an updated driver for your flash drive. XP
does not readily recognise all flash drives so I suggest you visit their
website and check it out.

Hope this helps,

I have noticed that sometimes XP does not assign the device a correct drive
letter and as a result doesn't show up under My Computer. If you aren't
seeing the device try going to manage disk and manually assign a drive
letter.

It is the correct drive letter to access that device. I think you mean it is
not in the order you would like- which is different to being a correct
letter- the OS assigns them in the order they are loaded at bootup.

Assign your own drive letter to the device so it won't change- for example I
have assigned W for my DVD writer, and some other assigned devices too for
convenience to avoid the letters changing.
