USB mass storage device problem

When I use an "SD" card from a camera, all goes well when I plug it into the
USB card reader built into the PC. When I want to unplug it, I click on the
icon to safely remove the device, get the message that it is OK to remove
it. When I try to plug it back in later, it is not recognized. Investigating
the computer management and clicking on "Mass storage device" properties, I
get this message, "Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has
been prepared for "safe removal", but it has not been removed from the
computer. (Code 47)
To fix this problem, unplug this device from your computer and then plug it
in again." Of course, that doesn't work! Obviously the computer isn't
recognizing that I HAVE unplugged the device. The only way I can read the
card again is to "Restart" the computer.

Anyone have any idea what's wrong?

Just take the SD card out without doing safely remove, XP is much more friendly about the removing
of items than Win2000 was. The card reader is probably plugged into an internal USB port so when
you use the removeicon it really thinks you want to take the whole reader out.
