Hi,

I just went through the whole list of problems related to this issue
and was not able to find a proper solution to my problem.

I have a custom made pc with windows xp sp2 and an Intel 82845 chipset.
I recently purchased an external hard disk for backup purposes. ever
since i have been having problems while using it. First it said i
needed sp2 to use it. Then, when i upgraded it, it it failed to
recognise the device. I have pruchased a Seagate SATA 160GB hdd.

I have tried everything possible. I have purchased a USB hub, I
purchased a PCI USB 2.0 card. Yet I am unable to make it work on my pc.
i tried using it on friends PC and it worked successfully.

Please advise. :(

Shreyank,

Right-click MY COMPUTER | MANAGE | DISK MANAGEMENT

Right-click your USB device & change the drive letter

I have tried that..but it still does not work...it gives an error which
says that "delayed write failed". and then the drive disappears from My
computer.

thx for the help dave...i went to the first link...tried what i
said...but to my avail...i still cannot access my hdd continuously...i
disappears with the same "delayed write failed error" it has been teste

Errr, the chipset drivers.

Whoever made the chipset, (not the CPU), Intel, Via, nVidia, SiS, etc, go to
their website and in support/download you will find a driver package. You
might need to know which model chipset you have, though I think most include
all newer chipsets in one package.

In Device Manager expand system devices will give you enough info to choose
the right package if need be.

Probably your problem is solved, do to the time past...
But use the "Add New hardware wizard" may be you will success.
Control Panel> Add new hardware> choose hard disk > first do automatly if
not choose from a list.
If you didn't succeed Go to Seagate site there is some new analyze programs
or post a ticket with your problem.
