USB Mass Storage Device Disappears

I just bought an external hard drive (USB Mass Storage Device). I am able to
browse through disk management to initialize, activate, partition, and format
the disk and it can then be found through My Computer and I can create files
on it. The problem is that after some time (less than an hour, not sure how
long exactly) the drive disappears from My Computer and is no longer
available in Disk Management so I have to disconnect and reconnect the drive.

Why is my drive disappearing? How do I get it to stay?

Anything like power management running?

Anyway, check
Start->Run devmgmt.msc -> USB controllers (?) -> RClick USB Root Hub
(all of them, one at a time) -> Properties -> Power Management tab -> "Allow
computer to turn off .."
If checked, UN-check

I can navigate up until "Properties," but don't see Power Management tab
between them!

Never mind that...found it!

Thanks so much!

What was the resolution here?

I would be interested to know, if you dn't mind me asking.

I thought it was resolved, but it actually didn't work. What I had done was
change a setting on the USB Root Hub properties so that the computer could
not turn the device off to save power.

But, my drive is still disappearing :(

It wouldn't happen to be one of them that turns itself off would it?
Other possibilities are you don't have enough power for everything
pluged into USB.
