USB keyboard being detected but not working on Notebook

Hi,

I've just restored XP pro on my Compaq nx9420 and came accross I problem
that didn't exist before.

I use a Logitech G15 gaming keyboard and after XP restored and I patched
to the latest updates (no errors) I installed is as previously.

Device manager shows it as a composite device, and the LCD works OK but
the keboard itself doesn't seem to type. I then tried a known good
(more basic) keyboard from a friend and is also showed up as a composite
device and didn't type despite device manager showing no errors.

Since the keyboards work OK on other PCs I think that there is maybe
some flag in XP preventing the keyboard output being recognised.

Can anyone suggest anything?

Did you update the driver for the keyboard, downloaded from the Logitech
Support and Download page as well?

# Title: G-series Keyboard Software 32-bit
# Software Version: 1.04.151

I tried the latest version from the logitech site as well as the disc
provided with the keyboard with the same results.

This adds the control software for the gaming functions but doesn't
change the solve the problem of the keystrokes not registering.

I don't think it is a logitech software specific problem since the plug
& play saitek keyboard has the same issue on my laptop post install but
works fine on other PCs without any drivers etc.

Did you then try the G15 on other PCs?

As the G15 worked fine before the restore, and assuming that your patching
means that the current configuration (updates and everything) of the XP is in
conforms with as before the restore, then some questions could be addressed:

1. When did you in the first place configure the G15 for a successful use
with the Compaq nx9420, and what was at that time the XP configuration?

2. Did you at that time follow a step – by – step procedure telling the
sequence when to install driver, connect the USB and etc?

3. Given that you followed a procedure, did you repeat it post restore?

4. If there are three “yes†so far, then the final question is: Is it likely
that some kind of conflict can occur when you “restore†the G15? If that is
the case, then may be the advice “Performing a Clean Installation of SetPoint
Software†on Logitech WEB pages could apply for your case as well, even when
I agree with your statement that this is most likely not a Logitech spesific
problem:

On the Logitech WEB pages, “Troubleshooting G15 Gaming Keyboardâ€, there is
one or two more articles which could be of some interest:

http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com...ch_nl&p_nav=head&p_li=&p_page_head=1&p_page=1

An (old) Microsoft article, “Composite USB devices whose interfaces are not
sequentially numbered do not work in Windows XPâ€, which could point towards
your concern regarding “flag†is:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814560

And a search with key “composite devices†which ended with references to
numerous articles:
