USB - found new hardware issue

I have a USB hub with printer, backup drive, external monitor - all hooked to
my new laptop with Vista. Everytime I start the laptop, there is a
continuous cylce of "Found New Hardware" and then a failure in installing
drivers. I have tried pointing to windows/system32 for drivers, but this
only works until the laptop is turned off and on again. I tried deleting
windows/inf/INFCACHE1 - but this appeared to do nothing. Any suggetions
welcomed!

I had a similar problem when I first build my last PC. The motherboard
was suppose to be Vista certified and it comes with on board support
for 7 SATA devices. Only problem is no matter what configuration I set
up in BIOS is simply wouldn't work except in IDE mode. What it would
do if in any SATA mode was to keep saying 'found new hardware'. If I
looked in Device Manager there were many extra lines for IDE channels
which it through the SATA drive was. It wouldn't even let me delete
the driver. As soon as I did it would pop up another 'found new
hardware' message and add it back.

Dumb old Windows does some pretty stupid things.

I would suggest you try one at a time to uninstall the printer, backup
drive then the hub. This means uninstall any drivers they might have
from Device Manager. Then one by one reconnect and Windows show pop a
new 'found new hardware' message and put the driver back. If it
doesn't fix the problem you should at least find out which device is
causing the problem.

The only way I fixed my problem was waiting for an updated BIOS and a
new Vista aware controller for the SATA drive. Till then nothing
mattered.
