USB FlashDrive not visible

I asked for help on this before, but unfortunately the advice did not help.
For some reason my USB flash drives are not showing in Windows Explorer.
They are detected and installed every time I plug them in but I can not see
them or their contents in Explorer.
I have used 'Disk Management' and given the drive a letter, but the drive
still doesn't show up and on returning to Disk Management I find the drive
letter has disappeared.
I have used System Restore, but that hasn't helped.
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know what advice was given before, but I just tried this and proved
that it worked:

Run TweakUI (you can get it from Microsoft's website). Select and expand
"My Computer" in the left pane, and then select "drives". Make sure a check
mark is next to all drive letters. To test this theory, I plugged in a USB
drive, it took the letter "E", which was the next available letter. When I
deselected all drive letters except "C" and "D" (my hard drive and CD-ROM),
the USB drive failed to show up in Windows Explorer.

Let me know if this works.

MadDog,
I useed TweakUI and found all the spare drive letters were checked with red
question marks next to them.
I tried unchecking all, then re-checking them but the flash drive still does
not appear in explorer.
I think I'll have to give up on this one.
Thanks for the help.

I have had exactly the same problem today with two differnt USB drives
which normally work ok. They are working again, after a reboot.
When this is happening, Device manager sees them and says they are
working ok, but windows can't see them. each time I plug them in and
out they get a new drive letter, as if the drive letters have not been
released, and this happens even with a reboot
