USB drivers;old version of XP; missing hotfix

Hi, I have recently acquired an old compaq notebook. My USB mouse
doesn't work; windows errors out when detecting it. I looked on the
manufacturer's website and learned this is an old problem with XP, and
a hotfix was issued to corrrect it.

Trouble is, support.microsoft.com, where the hotfix was, apparently no
longer exists.

Further searching on microsoft indicates the hotfix was included in
service pack 2, however that's what I'm running...

FYI it is hotfix 822603

Is there any hope for me?

Seriously, did you type 'KB822603' in google and look for it?

I did. Its one of the first two in the list.

Partway down the MS article there is a link to download the
windowsxp-KB822603-enu.exe (or whatever the name is).

Sorry closed the browser by mistake so I don't have the link.

Can't hurt to check to see if 'USB Legacy Support' is enabled in
BIOS (possibly under 'Advanced - Device options').

( If like a model here, press [F10] when booting to enter 'BIOS
setup'. Saving changes is a little devious compared to many other
BIOS's, pressing [F10] again to confirm. )
