USB doesn't recognize device but does fine with others

Hello

I have XP with SP1. The USB does not seem to notice when I plug in a particular device which happens to be a foot pedal that is necessary for my work. The USB works just fine with my other plug and play equipment (not necessary for work), such as a digital camera and a scanner. I plug in the foot pedal and absolutely nothing happens and the foot pedal doesn't respond. There are no yellow exclamation points in device manager. There are no unknown device messages. Nothing. I really, really need this foot pedal to be functional as I am a medical transcriptionist and can't work/live without it. The foot pedal is brand new and does not come with software of any kind and is not supposed to need any. It's plug and play. Please help. Patients are waiting... Thank you very much!

Hi,

You may have insufficient power available at the plug in point, and may
benefit from using a powered hub.
