USB disk devices no longer recognized

I have an odd problem. It started when I plugged one of my USB devices (a SD
card reader/writer) into one of my USB ports. You know how the dialog comes
up with "What would you like to do?" then gives several choices? One of
which is Do Nothing? Well I chose that one and checked the box that reads
"Do the requested action each time". Now when I plug the SD reader/writer,
or my USB Flash drive, into that port I no longer get the sound signifying a
USB device has been plugged in, nor does the disconnect icon appear in the
system tray, nor is the device recognized as a drive in Windows Explorer. I
am using a powered USB 2.0 hub on my desk. If I connect either of the two
devices to any USB port on the back of my computer - other than the one the
hub is plugged into - everything is normal including the "What would you
like to do?" dialog. Is there some way to turn this back on for that port?
Or does that even sound like what the problem might be? Thanks!

Hi Ron,

Try this:

Right-click My Computer => Properties => Hardware tab => Device
Manager button
Click on View and click on 'Show hidden devices'.
Look for any yellow alarm icons in the following location:
Universal Serial Bus controllers

If you find any, right-click on the item and click on Uninstall.

Reboot twice.
