Hi, I have just built a new PC and when it is turned off and I connect a USB
device, the PC automatically switches itself on. How do I stop this
happening? Main issue is that I have just installed broadband using a USB
adaptor and, becuase it is an always on connection and keeps calling the PC,
I cannot currently get my PC to stay off switched off!!

Search the BIos for "wake on lan" or some such switch.

can you elaborate?

Disabling it in the BIOS is not a useful answer nor will it help. You've
got something connected wrong. Does this happen with *all* usb ports or
perhaps just the ones in front? If just the ones in front and you had
to make that connection yourself, you've done it wrong. Read the
motherboard manual again. If this happens with all usb ports, then all
I can suggest is that you examine how you connected the case leads to
the motherboard - something must be wrong. You did use standoffs for
your board, yes? All the holes matched up, nothing is making a
connection where it shouldn't?

Malke,
The USB wireless adaptor is plugged into one of 4 usb ports that are
integral to the motherboard and accessible via the backplate (I don't have
ports on the front of my PC). And standoff/connection wise everything is as
it should be!

Then, are you certain that your PC is truly powered off or is it in
Stand-by/Hibernation??? I do not have any problem with my set up of my PC,
when I make sure my BIOS has "wake up on LAN" turned off. If the PC is in
Stand-by/Hibernation, then inserting the USB adapter will bring it back to
powered on state, which I believe is the "intended" mode.
