USB Device/Driver issues . . . .?!!

Having problems with my USB (network adapter)device. I tried uninstalling and
rebooting and going through the whole "Found New Hardware Wizard" process -
to no avail ?! I tried installing 'automatically' (the recommended way) =
didn't work. I tried installing from the Installation Disk (the advanced
option) = didn't work. I get conflicting messages about my USB device: 1.
It says - "Following Hardware (USB Device) is already installed on your
computer." and 2. "Hardware not installed because Wizard cannot find
the necessary Software." There is a definate problem regarding the "device
drivers." When I go to the USB Device Properties - under Driver Details - it
says that there are no drivers loaded for this device. I have tried
installing the USB device (as well as the drivers) from the manufacturer's
disk - it says right on the installation CD, "Designed for Microsoft /
WindowsXP" and I get a couple of different messages: 1. Specified location
does not contain information about your hardware. and 2. Unable to find
any drivers for this device. And, lastly, under "current status" I get a
message that states: Device not configured correctly (Code 1) and there are
big, yellow exclamation points all over the place . . . . HELP!!

The USB device that I am trying to install is a Comcast network adapter. I
guess the brand would be "LinkSys - Wireless-B" and there is a model number
"WUSB11" on the front of the installation disk. (There is also some
other information on the face of the disk: >> "2.4GHz" >> "Setup Wizard /
ver. 2.0" >> and "802.11b" . . . I don't know if any of that information
is necessary, but that is everything on the front of the disk!!)

I guess the biggest problem that I'm having is that the USB device that I'm
trying to install is the one that allows me to get onto the internet. If I
can't get onto the internet how do I download the updated drivers? I am also
getting a message that states I have a network cable unplugged, but I've
checked . . . . and I see that everything is connected correctly ?! It's
starting to drive me crazy . . . . !!
