USB comments and complaints

Why did Microsoft do this in XP? Every time you unplug a product from
the usb port and plug it in it redetects as if it were new hardware
and the software reinstalls on some products. Windows 98se remembers
the hardware connected to the usb port and Win98se will even remember
the hardware even if you change the ports. Microsoft needs to fix
this with sp2.

Doesn't do it for me. Problem maybe specific to your machine/installation.

Strange,
this is what another guy said

[This is what happens, once you connect to a USB port you leave alone.
The computer will treat it as new if you keep connecting and
disconnecting. It gets worse if you switch ports doing the same
thing. If you don't have enough ports get a plug in card that will
give you more. :) ]

This is why I asked why.

Sounds like computer specific to me..I have both usb 1.1
and 2.0 on my xp machine and can consistantly swap all of
these with out the computer telling me anything like
that..I am currently running 9 different usb peripherals
with others that are used occasionally (joystick, steering
wheel etc )
....Not much help but thought it might make a point...
