USB 2.0 Support

Hello,

I just purchased an external DVD burner that connects through my USB
port.

This device supports USB 2.0 technology (speeds).

I have an AOPEN AX34 motherboard, with built in USB ports and an add
on third party 4 port USB card (connected to PCI slot).

I would like to verify that at least one of these devices supports USB
2.0 speeds.

I looked through my motherboard manual, but it is unclear (no
reference to USB 2.0).

I am under the impression that my add on card supports 2.0 speeds, but
still uncertain.

Is there a way to verify this?

My computer lists in device manager:

VIA USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller

I assume one of the connections supports USB 2.0 speeds. However, when
I connected my device, it said that the computer does not have any USB
2.0 controllers.

My operating system is Windows XP.

Any suggestions on how to verify this?

Thanks for your time.

Regards,

Mark

You need Windows XP SP1 and you should also find out which
3rd party USB card you have and check their website for
details.

Some may have three or four ports but only some may support
2.0.

Also, the VIA USB 2.0 chipset has problems with some
hardware, you may need to download some additional software
to make it work.

Check with the external DVD mfg'r website for a FAQ.

Hi,

The VIA USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller is the controller for USB 2.0.
Have you installed SP1 or SP1a?
Try go to windows update site and update the patches for USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 in the recommended update column.
