USB 2.0 on Dell and problems recognizing Ipod/HP printer cardreade

My USB works fine for game controller and as a hookup for my digital video
camera, but is not reading the memory card when put in my HP 7760 printer nor
will it allow me to "explore" my ipod. Says Idod drive is corrupted (not a
problem with my other computer) and tells me that x-d memory card needs to be
formatted.
I have reinstalled all programs and driver x2. Both show in device manager
which says they are operating. Both appear in the tray for "unplug or eject"
hardware.
Any idea

It could be a dirty contact in the slot in the printer, blow
some air in to get rid of dust. Makes sure the contacts are
clean and bright.

You might need to completely remove the HP printer and the
USB ports, then do a clean install again.

Not all xD card readers will read all xD cards, you might
need new drivers for the reader and some readers won't read
the xD M class cards.

Reinstalled all software for both Ipod and printer twice. Happens with all
my x-d cards and is a new problem. Never had problem until recently and
can't pinpoint what could have occurred.

Did you remove all the software before you reinstalled?

Did you disconnect the printer before reinstalling it? Then, install
the software during which you'll be prompted when to connect it
and when to turn it on.
