USB 2.0 hard drive reboots computer

I have a USB 2.0 external hard drive. Until recently the
drive worked just fine. Without having changed anything
to my knowledge, suddenly this drive causes the system to
instantly reboot itself.

If the computer is on and booted when you turn the drive
on, the system immediately reboots, goes through the
POST, and then reboots again without ever getting to the
Windows logo. The cycle will repeat until you turn the
drive or the computer off.

If the drive is on when you turn on the computer, then as
above you never get to the Windows logo. The system just
keeps rebooting.

All of my other USB devices work without a problem. I
have all Critical Updates installed, and am virus-free.

Thanks for your attention.

You may have to go through your BIOS and if there is a
section for USB emulation, then you may need to place "no
boot" and then save.

It appears that the system is trying to boot from your
external...

Thanks, but that's not it. I checked all of my BIOS
settings and don't find anything unusual. The system
restarts even after I have fully booted and am in Windows.

After reviewing the problem, I mis-stated that it doesn't
get to the Windows logo during boot. It actually gets
past the Windows logo, but does not get to the logon
screen.

The hard drive is an ACOM DATA 60GB USB 2.0 drive.

Any other ideas?
