I have been having a terrible time trying to get a USB 2.0
CompactFlash reader to work on my system. I am also
having similar problems with my USB 2.0 externally powered
hub (my card reader is directly plugged into the system--I
have a couple less important devices on my hub).
I am running WinXP Pro SP1 (and I added the post SP1 USB
fix along with essentially all the "Windows Update"
fixes). I also applied the latest Intel Chipset Software
Utility (5.0.2.1003) using the "-usb2" option to add USB2
support for WinXP.
All to no avail.
1) The system continues to complain that I've connected a
high speed device to a low speed port (both for the card
reader and the powered hub).
2) The USB hub doesn't resume life after I put the
computer in sleep mode (I had to hot-plug the USB cable to
liven it up).
When I look at the device manager, it doesn't have any
apparent problems. It is interesting, however, that it
lists 3 "standard" USB controllers and 1 "enhanced" USB
controller (all contain a "USB Root Hub" under them). ALL
of my USB devices claim to be plugged into one of the
3 "standard" USB controllers and the "enhanced" controller
shows 6 open slots.
My ASUS P4B533 has (supposedly) full USB 2.0 support. It
has 6 USB connectors (2 pair onboard; 1 pair via a
connector that is USB 2.0 rated). There are no additional
USB 2.0 connectors that I can find. I have the latest
BIOS (1014).
In the BIOS, I've disabled "legacy USB" support. My
choices for "USB 1.1" are "Disabled" or "3 Controllers" (I
choose 3 controllers, since "Disabled" removes the "USB
2.0" choice. I then chose "Enabled" for USB 2.0 support.
I left the USB HS Reference Voltage at "Medium".
Any thoughts, suggestions, or (best of all) solutions??
Thanks,
....Rob
