USB 2.0 Active cable causing slow bootup or hang.

Using a repeater USB cable between printer and computer,
However as it is over 5M 16Feet need to use and active cable.

This cable had an interesting side effect.
Caused the computer to go throught the bios boot up really slowly and
staggered through counting memory.

Tried in on all x6 USB ports the motherboard has and it had the same
effect.

Obviousely an incompatibility betwwen the active hub cable and the
motherboard chipset?
So much for USB 2.0 standards.

Cable is a DSE USB 2.0 Active Extension Cable & board containg Intel
845PE chip set with x2 USB 2.0 on board controllers.

Hope this one helps save time for the next person with these active
hubs that are nothing but trouble.

Is the MB configured to allow boot from external USB devices? If so the PC
could be checking for a boot device. Check boot device options in bios.

Good Point Ed Ruf,

Yes the MB can boot from USB/CD ROMs but the bios is not configured to
boot from the USB in its list. It can be selected as one of the
options, but haven't done so.

It is however possible that it is "checking" all possible boot devices
by default anyway. As this motherboard is over 3 years old I don't
think Gigabyte will realease a new Bios to fix this issue.

But interesting side effect!
