upgrading to Windows XP (Traditional Chinese version)

Hi,

I have Windows 98, 2nd edition (English version)
installed on my laptop. I'm giving the laptop to my wife
who wants to change the computer to traditional Chinese
version. When we are in Taiwan, I plan to purchase
Windows XP but I'd like to get some advice ahead of time
as to how to make this change.

Will I need to remove the Windows 98 and if so how? I
already went to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, but
Windows 98 is not on the list.

Or possibly, will I be able just to install XP over the
top of Windows 98 - though I already tried to add Chinese
software once before and it gave me an error message
saying the program language was different.

Any ideas? Thank you, j

You should be able to upgrade your existing windows 98
installation to xp, that way you will retain your files
etc. Once installed download a traditional chinese
language pack.

I already saved all files to disk and deleted them from
the harddrive. If I install English language XP then
download the chinese language pack, my understanding is
that will only give the user the option of reading
letters/webpages, etc. in Chinese, but the actual Windows
XP program will still be in English which is not what my
Chinese speaking/reading partner wants.

You will need to clean install XP Chinese, you cannot upgrade to other
languages.
I think you can still use the upgrade version to clean install, but check
before purchasing.

You boot from the CD and do a clean install.
