your windows installation is german since in fact you purchased the
notebook in germany
there is no way you can change this to english without reinstalling the
OS

could be that you will not even be able to do this if there is no
install media provided with the notebook
if there are several cd's you should check them all to see if there is
an english version between them

you could try to call the support line of the vendor of the notebook to
see if you could get the english version send to your home
but even then the keyboard will remain german (QWERTZU) unless you swap
this out too

can't you return the notebook and request an english version of it at
the store you bought it from?

No way to convert the language resources. You need to purchase the
full English WinXP version in order to perform a clean install.
Since this is XP home I dont get the language option in the regional
settings.

Note that this option supports different keyboard layouts and character
input only. There is no impact on any menus or dialogs.

Hi Srini,

The German version of Windows XP is usually completely translated and it
does not use MUI/LIP like some other languages. Windows XP Home usually
comes with a LIP (Language Interface Pack), but it was not launched for
German language. Here are some details:

Comparing Windows XP Professional Multilingual Options

So, if you want to use English version of Windows you will have to do a
clean installation of the operating system.

Hello

There is no possibility to get a notebook with english versions due to the
fact that It is purchased in Germany.

I guess I have no option than a clean re-install.

Thanks.

A clean reinstall will only reinstall it in German so that won't work.
You will need to buy and clean install an English version of XP to have
it in English. Perhaps you have a friend in an English speaking country
that could buy it and send it to you?

Another alternative is Ubuntu, www.ubuntu.com, a very user friendly
version of Linux that is -- unlike Windows -- installable in any
language you like.

A clean re-install will not help you. What you need is an English version,
and that will have to be bought.

You cannot upgrade or convert from one language version of the OS to
another, so you'll have to purchase and use the full version of WinXP
(in whatever language you want) to perform a clean installation.
