I have WinXP Home running on an Athlon XP 2000 processor. I am thinking of
upgrading to a 3200+ processor with a new motherboard and possibly new hard
drive (using Norton Ghost to do the transfer). What are my chances of
running my existing setup without completely reinstalling everything? Is it
possible to do a repair from the installation disks or can I reinstall a new
copy of XP over the old one?

The chances to run the old setup on the new computer are 50 / 50.
Sometimes it works, sometimes not. As I know, a reinstallation over the
old copy of XP should work. The mainproblem is, the new installation
will be in an other folder. Mostley windows.000 but the registry will be
taken from the old inst. I'm not 100% sure about this but my experiences
were so.

Hello Stefan,
Would this work with an OEM version of XP? Asking on behalf of a friend who's m/board is playing up and she may need to have a new m/board fitted. She's in to graphic heavy web design and a friend, on trying to install a CD-burner drive messed up with her primary IDE connectors on m/board, hence: no internet connection. Going to help her tomorrow ... 25th ... to re-wire all the cables and we need to know if OEM XP can be transferred if the board has to be replaced.
Here's hoping you or maybe someone else can help.
