I recently went to install vista 64bit over vista 32(ultimate) but when i
would try to boot from the vista 64 disk i got the NTLDR error...i placed it
in my laptop and it booted fine...but i dont want it on my laptop...so i
formatted my hard drive and tried to do a clean install and came up with the
same error...so i reinstalled XP pro then tried to upgrade it with vista 64
and still got the error...so i tried my vista 32 disk and yet still got the
error again...but i can boot into XP pro without issue...my system passed the
64bit part of the vista upgrade advisor...any suggestions short of dropping
3-400 dollars on a full version of a prgram i already put 250 into? Im far
from a novice with computers, but this one has really got me...any
help/fixes/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you :)

I suggest you post to one of the Vista newsgroups. This one is for the XP

ALL MS OS's are best to install totally fresh, NOT over an existing OS.

I strongly disagree. This was a valid point of view several years ago,
back in the days of Windows 9X. But with more modern versions of
Windows, an upgrade installation replaces almost everything anyway,
and almost always works very well. My recommendation is to at least
try the upgrade; if it goes well (and it probably will) you will have
saved lots of time. Worst case, if it causes problems, you can also
redo it as a clean installation.

The one exception to this is that I do not recommend doing an upgrade
if you are currently experiencing problems. Some people upgrade with
the hope that it will solve their problems, but it is more likely to
exacerbate them.
