Upgrading from XP Home to XP Pro

I purchased an upgrade version of XP Professional 2 yrs ago. I just got a new
computer with XP home pre-installed. When I went to upgrade to Professional
it wont let me do it because the XP home version is newer than the
Professional.Does this mean I have to fork out another $200 for a more recent
upgrade of Professionl. I wasn't aware of any expiration ate on the box when
i bought it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

Im stumped at why that did that but if you want to put it on do the following:
1. Start up ypur computer and entrt BIOS (By pressing Delete OR F2 on some
computers)
2. Change the boot sequence to CDROM then HD 2nd
3. Put in the cd and reboot

No, you do not need to spend another $200 and there is no expiration date.
That message occurs if you attempt to upgrade from Windows XP Home SP-2 to
Windows XP Pro SP-1.
In this case it is seen as a downgrade because of the Service Pack.
You have a few options:
1. Uninstall SP-2, then the upgrade should proceed normally.
2. Slipstream SP-2 into Windows XP Pro:

No. Create a slipstreamed version of XP Professional, including
SP2, and use it. See

Am curious about what you think you'll get from XP Pro
that you're not getting from XP home . . .

You'll either need to uninstall SP2 before attempting the upgrade,
or try slipstreaming SP2 into the upgrade.

Just make sure you back up all your data and email before trying to upgrade.
Creating a slipstream CD seems to be the overwhelming response to this
problem.
