I have a laptop with Windows Me and I want to upgrade to Windows XP Professional. I have misplaced the WinMe CD. Does WinXP Pro Upgrade require the WinMe CD-ROM during the installation and upgrade process?

Addendum to Jerry's informative answer...

The upgrade to Windows XP does not require the original CD of a qualifying
media as long as you are not attempting to perform a clean install of
Windows XP - starting from scratch and installing Windows XP fresh. If you
are using Windows XP as a true upgrade - then no CD of the previous
qualifying OS is required - it just needs to be in place.

Also notice that during the upgrade - DISCONNECT FROM THE INTERNET! Do not
reconnect until XP is installed an you have turned on the firewall. Then
once connected, go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and install all
critical updates!
