Upgrading from Windows XP Home SP2 to XP Pro

I got a new machine that has XP Home on it, and I was wondering if I
could update it to XP Pro. the XP Home is SP2 and the XP Pro will be
straight off the install disk. Can I load it and keep all the registry
setting for the software already loaded?

Hi Nick,

While you can definitely upgrade from Home to Pro, the Pro version must be
the same or higher version, or any service packs must first be removed. As
you have WinXP Home w/SP2 system, it can only be upgraded with an XP Pro
w/SP2 disk. If you have a generic or retail disk that is pre-SP2, you can
download SP2 and slipstream it. Directions found here:

Youre best bet and as microsoft recommends,installing pro over home,
one should do a clean install of pro,boot to xp cd,format and install pro.
