Upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows XP

Alex Bombino

Hi guys,

I am having a problem after I upgraded from windows 98 to
windows xp. I firstly check the system upgrade report
which you can get from windows XP CD and my PC did not
have any comparability problems exempt with Norton Virus
which I uninstalled before upgrade. The upgrading process
went smoothly. It asked me for User and password which I
incorporated. The problem is that when I logged in I only
get a desktop picture. Not taskbar manager, Not start key,
No icons in the desktop. Nothing eccept a desktop
picture. I logged into safe mode and I looked into the
user profile folder and it only have an administrator
profile and a user profile folder. But not user profile
that I was trying to use.

So I created another user from the control panel and the
system did not created a profile folder for the user that
I justed created. Can anybody tell why. ? Why the user
profile folder in the documents and setting do not get
created when I create a new user ?. I am logged in as
administrator.

Thanks for you time.

Right click on the desktop and go to properties and then settings. Change
your resolution to 800 x 600 (or something different than it already is)
click apply and then change it back and hit apply.

Thanks for your prompt reply,

I can't get any menu when I righ click any where in the
desktop. Also I don't get the start menu when I press
the windows flag key. The only thin I get is the mouse
pointer and mouse movement. It's very odd. What should be
my next move ?

Hit the Flag (Windows Key) + E and see if this brings up Windows Explorer.
If so, try what I suggested in my last post by selecting Control Panel from
Windows Explorer and then Display Settings.

Thanks for your prompt reply,

I tried already a right click and I don't get a menu not
matter where I am in the desttop. I don't get a pull up
menu when I press the windows flag button in the key
board. I don't see a taskbar. The only thing I see is
desktop picture in the background and a mouse pointer. The
mouse does have movement. What should my next move be ?.

Thanks
