Upgrading from Win 98 to XP?

I'm having trouble upgrading my workplaces system...

The product key is invalid. I have spoken to technical
support, who have given me 3 different keys which won't
work...

Has anyone successfully upgraded from windows 98 to XP
after encountering this problem?

I have never upgraded from win98 to xp, but from past
experience...I wouldn't do an upgrade. Something will not
go right. I have gone from win2000 to xp and not had one
of those machines turn out quite right. You'll end up
rebuilding the machine sooner or later. Just my opinion.

Lisa:

Been there, done that. I landed up with a "bag of worms"
after taking the short cut. My advice is to do a clean
install. Also check the XP Compatability Advisor from MS
Support before the upgrade so you'll know which of your
hardware and/or software are incompatible. Good luck.
