Upgrading from Outlook Express to 2003

I have just purchased the MS Office 2003 standard edition
which includes Outlook Express 2003. I was previously
using Outlook Express. I had so many problems after
trying to upgrade to Outlook Express 2003 that I ended up
uninstalling all of MS Office 2003 then reinstalling it
without the Outlook 2003 piece. This means that I am
stuck with Outlook Express, which is obviously less
powerful than Outlook 2003 but it doesn't seem to be
worth the apparently enormous effort to fix all of the
problems which I have when I try to install Outlook 2003.
Any suggestions ? Here are the kind of problems which I
had when I tried upgrading to Outlook 2003 from Outlook
Express. . .
1. My Download Accelerator program stopped working, so I
couldn't download any files from the Internet.
2. Every time I opened Outlook 2003, I would get the
error message "this application has requested the runtime
to terminate in an unusual way", though I seemed to be
able to continue to open Outlook 2003 after acknowledging
the error message.
3. When openinig Outlook 2003, I would also often get the
error message "Outlook experienced a serious error last
time the add-in NORTON ANTISPAM . . . ".
All of these problems disappeared as soon as I
uninstalled Outlook 2003 and went back to Outlook
Express. Is it always this messy to try to install
Outlook 2003 when upgrading from Outlook Express ? Any
help would be appreciated.

1. Outlook 2003 is not an upgrade, it is an entirely separate product.
2. There is no such beast as Outlook Express 2003.
3. What happens if you open Outlook using the /safe switch?
4. What types of add-ins do you have that work with Outlook?
5. When you report a problem, it is very helpful to report the exact error
message.

Thanks for your reply,

1. Understood - I was simply using the same language as
was presented by Outlook 2003 when it imported my data
from OE6, and the same language as used on the Microsoft
support page "How to Upgrade from Outlook Express to
Outlook 2002". (support.microsoft.com/ default.aspx?
scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B287073). I guess that the use
of "upgrade" is a little misleading.

2. Sorry - I meant OE6

3. Not sure exactly what is classed as a plug-in but I do
use Norton Internet Security Professional 2003 and
Download Accelerator Plus

4. Not sure what would happen if I used the /safe switch.
How exactly would I do that ? I am a little reluctant to
load Outlook again (I have uninstalled it) but I will try
it when I am sure that the PC is back to full stability
again after my abortive attempt to install it.

Thanks again. I appreciate your help.
