Hello - I unsuccessfully tried to upgrade XP-Home Edition to XP-Pro resulting
in an unusable OS. I loaded XP-Pro into a fresh directory (Windows2) and
spend a full day reloading apps. I had a few very important files on my old
desktop (in HE). I had had backed up everything else, but forgot about these
few. I know they are still in the user account directories under "documents
and settings", but I cannot access the user account folder. Apparently it
wants me to be logged in under HE - which I can't do.
In short - being logged into XP pro as administrator does not give me full
access to my machine.
I booted from CD, and went into "repair" mode for the damaged install, and
it won't let me access "documents and settings", apparetly because I am not
logged into the new install. I would need to be logged into the new install
to get into "Doc & Set", and then logged into the old install to get into the
user account.
As usual, security ONLY inhibits intended users. Is there a trick that
allows me to regain control of my own machine?
