I intalled a new motherboard and CPU in my PC.
When I booted XP it noticed the change (smart OS) but it
told me that I would have to re activate XP.

I type in the code on that little sticker on the front of
the PC and get the reply that it was already activated on
another PC. I look down at the old motherboard at my feet
and think well it's not going to be running XP ever again.

I get 2 options purchase a multiple licence (yeah right!)
or call this number. Ok I ring the number and at the
request of some machine enter 8 groups of 6 digit numbers
and get the reply that it was already activated on
another PC if you think this is an error press 1 to speak
to an operator. I press 1 and get hung up on!

I call again punch in all those numbers, press 1 and get
hung up on a second time!!!

Whats going on here? Do I have to buy XP all over again
everytime I want to upgrade my PC?????

All you need to do is what you are doing. No idea why you
get cut off, but you should go through to a real person,
if you let them know what happened they will just give you
a new number to put in and it will activate again

Try again, try pressing 0

Keep trying, Check the screen for an option to speak to a live person, I
have not encountered this activation malfunction, so I am not sure what
information you have available on screen. When you make the call the next
time and get the automated response, press 0. This will usually override the
automated reply and get you to a live person.
Please post back with your results. Sorry for the problem, usually
activation is quick and painless.
BTW, if you are changing the MB on the OEM version of XP, there is a
possibility activation will be denied.
