Upgraded from pro 2000 to xp pro, usb mice and camera won't work

Dell Latitude D600, plugged in belkin optical mouse, recognized as hid and
unkown mouse, windows tries to install drivers, cyclic redundancy error,
drivers not installed. Sony camera, same thing. Uninstalled/Re-installed
usb controllers/hubs, turned off power saver feature on all hubs, Belkin says
mouse should work with installed drivers. Found driver on web for the mouse
and the camera and tried installing that and then plugging in both. Still
errors with install. Tried installing the usb drivers that came with the
camera, still wouldn't work. Mouse works on xp home. Copied drivers from xp
home and attempted to install them with the install wizard. Didn't work so I
copied the one missing file to the proper windows directory. This seemed to
get the Delorme Earthmate gps reciever to start working but still no mouse or
camera. Any ideas? Thank you for reading!

Possibly a bad USB port, could be a bad copies/disks for the drivers (and a
host of other stuff).

Can you try fresh downloads? Can you try other USB ports?

Did you upgrade the WinXP-specific drivers for the laptop's
motherboard's chipset ? Does Dell provide a BIOS update to provide
WinXP-compatibility?

John,
Thank you for reply. Usb ports are good with memory sticks and mp3 players,
also got the delorme earthmate gps reciever to work with them. Drivers
downloaded from the web were also tried for both the camera and the mouse.
No luck.

Bruce,
Thanks for the reply. I just got a new motherboard prior to the upgrade and
I checked on the motherboard bios but the Dell website was older version so I
didn't mess with it. I haven't tried to see if Dell has xp specific drivers
for the motherboard chipset.
But I will try.

Bruce,
Tried the dell website. The chipset drivers etc. support xp. Downloaded
again anyway. No change. Tried to hook up the camera, it recognized it and
then it tried to install the camera again. Cyclic redundancy error.
Unplugged the camera and tried to re-install the drivers that I downloaded
from Sony. No luck. Tried the disc again. Same thing.

You will need to remove the drivers from the W2K install corresponding to those 2 specific peripherals.. These drivers that were resident with W2K are still on your system and are different version numbers than that of the ones needed for the XP OS. After removing those 2 specifique W2K drivers for these peripherals install the new drivers from their manufacturers site that are meant for XP

Ah..... Was this new motherboard obtained from Dell? If not, you'll
want to get the BIOS and chipset drivers from the motherboard manufacturer.

Peter,
I'm not sure there are drivers for the mouse and the camera as I can't find
any. I found all the installed and hidden items in hardware manager and
un-installed all the ones I didn't need and also the usb root hubs etc. Then
I re-installed them and attempted to load the drivers off the web for the
mouse and off the disc for the camera. Still getting a cyclic redundancy
check error. The mouse is supposed to work with the installed xp drivers and
apparently it shouldn't even ask for drivers. I am thinking I might try to
re-install xp sp 1. Is there another way I should look for the drivers?

Bruce,
The mother board was obtained by going through dell for service. I don't
think the tech would use another manufactor but I'm not sure. I will
research and try to find out. Thanks!

Actually, Dell doesn't manufacturer motherboards, so it had to have
originally come from someone else. Be that as it may, it should have
been accompanied by a CD containing all of the necessary drivers, unless
it was identical to the original.
