Yesterday I upgraded my XP Home to XP Pro, and now I have no sound. NOthing
in the sounds cagetory in control panel is clickable.

I ran HWINFO32 to find out what the name of my sound card is, and it is:

AC'97 Codec (VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller)

I found a driver for this card, downloaded and installed it, rebooted my pc
and still nothing. SO I uninstalled the driver.

Can someone help me find the correct driver and help me solve this problem -
its so frustrating not having any sounds but the annoying beeping coming from
the pc. Help! Thanks in advance........

It's a function of your motherboard Chipset. You need to determine
the Vendor/Model # so you can download the appropriate driver.
You should also check Device Manager and make sure the Audio
hardware hasn't been placed in the "Other Devices" category.
Once you install the driver package, you need to Sounds Applet in
Control Panel, Audio (TAB) and ensure default device is selected.
Finally, use the Volume control to make sure the proper devices in
Volume are selected (not Muted) and volume level is at least 50%+.
Everest Home Edition is a Hardware/'Software inventory tool that
can display your computers hardware configuration.

Thanks so much for your reply! Actually, it magically fixed itself. After 4
reboots (not 1), XP picked up the new hardware and matched it with the driver
I downloaded. We're in business! Tx again.......
