When I try to upgrade from xp home sp2 to vista I get the error "Windows
encountered an internal error while initializing COM" It gives me the option
of OK and the install doesn't even start. Any ideas?

Your XP installation might be corrupt. Try repairing XP first with the Setup
CD or the tools you are used to.

Also : if you used tools like "XPlite" to remove certain Windows components
this could be a cause, so important stuff might be missing-

A straight Inplace upgrade from XP Home SP2 is only possible to Vista Home
Basic, Home Premium and Ultimate.

Can't find the XP disc. XP seems to be running fine, however, Internet
Explorer 7 is running with add-ons disabled. When I go to Tools, Manage
add-ons it is grayed out. Could one issue be affecting another? XP has all
current updates. I'm starting to get a bad feeling since I have already
opened Vista. I'm going to run a chkdsk from another XP disc just for the
heck of it. If you have any other ideas I would sure appreciate the help. Mike
