Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor

H

HAU

I'm trying to run the VUA and keep getting the error: "Windows Vista Upgrade
Advisor encountered an error while scanning your system. If the problem
persists, you can uninstall VUA and reinstall the latest version." I've done
this several times and still keep getting the error.
I'm presently using Windows XP Pro SP2, on a Pentium D930 (dual core 3.0
GHz), 2Gb RAM.
Any suggestions?

There is a very good chance Norton is causing your problem.
Replace Norton with the free AVG http://free.grisoft.com/ or Avast
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html, and Windows Firewall and Windows
Defender. Disabling Norton is not enough. You need to completely uninstall
it. If it doesn't solve the problem, get rid of Norton anyway. Norton is
known to cause many problems in Vista and they don’t always appear
immediately.

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool.

Thanks. Just decided to avoid Vista for as long as possible. XP still does
everyting I need and want, so no real purpose in upgrading.

Hi Bob,
I know that Harry decided not to pursue the problem...but I am getting a
very similar error message with VUA. The only diff in the error message is
that mine is a very short message that says "Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor
has encountered problems. IE will be closed." (or something very similar to
this).
I do NOT have any Norton products. I am running Windows XP, Home verison,
on my computer with dual core processor and 2 GB RAM.
Is there only one version of VUA? version 1.0?

I'd like to upgrade to Vista but want to run this Advisor first. Thanks for
any direction you can offer.

Agreed.
Your best choice is to wait until you're ready to buy a new machine with
Vista preinstalled.

Sorry SDJ64,
I don't have anything to add to what I've suggested to Harry.
AFAIK There only one version of VUA.
