upgrade xp home to xp pro

I have a machine with xp home loaded and activated, and i
have purchased a copy of xp pro. Can I use this as an
upgrade and then install xp home on another computer??

Then no. OEM copies (preinstalled when you buy the PC) are tried to the
hardware they are sold with. They cannot be transferred to another PC.

Yes, a retail XP Pro will upgrade any Home version. If it
is a retail XP Pro you can install it on any XP Home
machine, but only one machine at a time. That means you'd
need to revert the first machine to the OEM Home before you
installed the Pro upgrade to a second machine.

Yes, you may use a full or upgrade version to upgrade it. You just cannot
transfer that copy of XP Home to another PC.

Sure, but then you're paying $100 extra to upgrade when you have a full
version.

If you can return it, go get the upgrade version instead (for $100 less).

Yes, you can, if it's truly a full version. But make sure it's
not actually an OEM version, which many people confuse with the
full version. OEM versions can not do upgrades.
