Upgrade XP Home to XP Pro

Hi all,
Simple question here. I have recieved a copy of XP Porfessional from my
college through the Microsoft Educational thing (cant remember its proper
name) and would like to know if it is possible to install XP Pro over the
top of XP Home without losing any files that I have on my computer already?

Basically I dont want to do a clean install, just replace XP Home with pro
and keep everything I have already there, I could back everything up to DVD,
but that would take ages. (Quite a good atitude for someone studying
Systems Support and Networking isnt it!!!)

WinXP is designed to install and upgrade the existing operating
system while simultaneously preserving your applications and data, and
translating as many personalized settings as possible. The process is
designed to be, and normally is, quite painless. That said, things can
go wrong, in a small number of cases. If your data is at all important
to you, back it up before proceeding.

The upgrade from WinXP Home to WinXP Pro, in particular, almost
always goes smoothly, as both operating systems use the same kernel.

Hi Andy,

As long is the CD is not a OEM version, there should be no problem. All
your files and setting will remain. Boot to Windows, insert the disk
choose Install then Upgrade. You will also want to run Windows Update
after the install.
