Upgrade - What files checked?

Hi,

When a Win2K upgrade disk is used on a computer with any of the same or
lower Microsoft OS, what directories/files does it look for to qualify it
for a valid installation?

The files are randomly chosen from a database we have during upgrade. What
kind of problem are you having when you try to upgrade?

I'm actually not having any problem but I work on many systems so I've done
upgrades plenty of times but never knew the qualification process. I
actually had a client ask me this too recently but didn't have an answer.
